In today's highly dynamic organizational environments, most organizations need innovation to thrive and even to survive. The source of innovation is the people who work for the organization. Therefore, attracting creative people to join the organization and fostering creativity among current employees is a priority for many managers.

Creativity is the ability to generate new ideas or to take new perspectives on existing ideas. Creative people tend to have the following attributes:
- Childhoods in which creativity was encouraged
- Personality traits of openness, attraction to complexity, high energy, independence, autonomy, and strong self-confidence
- High cognitive abilities, including analytical thinking, divergent thinking, and convergent thinking
